Aitape West Translation Project MapsWhere in the world is Papua New Guinea? It's in the South Pacific, just north of Australia. Note the inset map, showing that PNG is located north of Australia and east of Indonesia.
The second map shows the location of the town of Aitape on the north coast and Ukarumpa, our translation center in the highlands.
This map shows where the languages in the translation project are located. Arop-1 is where we live and is where the translation workshops are held. Dark black areas show where the Sissano, Arop, and Malol people lived on the coast before the 1998 tsunami. Since then, they have moved inland to the villages marked on this map.
